Audiovisual Arts and Technology

Camera and Video Operator

Audiovisual Arts and Technology is a vocational education programme that prepares camera and video operators for work in film, television and digital media. It brings together camera technique, editing and project work, leading to a Level 4 qualification under the Latvian and European Qualifications Frameworks.

The programme lasts four years and takes place on site. It is intended for students who have completed basic education (Year 9). It includes substantial work placements in media and film environments — more than 560 hours.

During the programme, students learn to work with professional camera equipment, frame composition, lighting and sound processing. They learn to create audiovisual work, covering editing, set design and project management. The programme also covers camera work in television, creating multimedia content, and working with current live broadcast technologies.

The programme is built around the transition from student to young professional, including film history, creative writing and extensive work experience at companies. Graduates can work as camera and video operators, camera assistants, video editing assistants, multimedia content creators or television production staff.

The annual fee for the 2026/2027 academic year is EUR 3,100 (EUR 310 per month over 10 academic months). The school offers a wide range of discounts.

The Audiovisual Arts and Technology programme is for artists who want to convey their inner world through a camera lens. Students learn filming, photography, editing, sound recording, directing, dramaturgy and the basics of production. The programme opens the way to making short films, documentaries and music videos.
