From 23 to 27 March, a five-day course titled "Educational Coaching Tools" took place in Seville, Spain, under the Erasmus+ programme. Taking part were Deputy Principal Gunta Kuternega, project manager Mārīte Brice and English teacher Jeļena Stepanova. The course was organised by the local training provider iDevelop Training S.L.U.

The course brought together teachers from several European countries — alongside our school's representatives were colleagues from Romania, Norway and Spain, creating a rich international setting for both discussion and the exchange of experience.

The main theme of the course was educational coaching, an approach that changes the way a teacher works with a student. Over the week, participants learned methods of effective communication and feedback, and explored various techniques for building students' motivation and involvement in learning. The programme was designed so that theory was tested in practice straight away, with each day's ideas reinforced through practical activities.

Particular attention was given to the art of asking questions — how to ask the right ones so that students arrive at the answer themselves, develop independent thinking and take responsibility for their own learning. The course also looked at the role of emotional intelligence in a teacher's work, and at coaching methods for working with groups and with individual students.

The international make-up of the group added further value: during conversations and group work, teachers from each country shared their own experience, and the differences in approach often became a starting point for stimulating discussion.

The coaching methods learned on the course will help participants make both their work and the learning process more focused and more effective. The school sees this mobility as part of a long-term strategy of systematically strengthening the professional capacity of its teachers and bringing modern approaches into everyday work.
