Project BT4VET – Business Transformation of VET the results and practical tools developed within the project were presented to 26 participants at a workshop held in Riga.
The workshop brought together vocational school teachers, trainers, managers and other education professionals with an interest in strengthening the capacity of vocational education and training (VET) institutions to respond to students' changing needs, to technological development and to the demands of the labour market.
During the session, participants were introduced to the aims of BT4VET and to the project's approach to supporting the transformation of vocational education institutions. Particular attention was given to the project's practical resources, including the VET Business Index(VET Business Index)the business transformation model, the mapping results and the practical toolkit.
The project encourages vocational education institutions to look beyond their traditional role as providers of qualifications. Instead, they can become active partners in their local economic and social ecosystem — working more closely with employers, developing new services, supporting innovation and creating added value for students, businesses and society.

From Ideas to Action

The workshop showed how the BT4VET tools can help vocational education institutions assess where they currently stand, identify areas for development and turn strategic intentions into practical action. The project's handbooks, templates, checklists and exercises offer a structured starting point for institutions that want to modernise the way they work without losing sight of their educational mission.

The workshop gave participants the opportunity to:

• reflect on the changing role of vocational education institutions;
• assess their own organisation's strengths and development needs;
• identify opportunities for new study programmes and services;
• identify opportunities for closer cooperation with employers and local community partners;
• consider new target groups, market niches and funding opportunities;
• strengthen strategic, entrepreneurial and innovation-oriented thinking;
• explore practical tools that can be adapted to their own institution's context.

One of the most valuable aspects of the BT4VET resources is how practical they are. The project does not present transformation as a theoretical concept alone — it gives vocational education leaders and practitioners concrete instruments for planning, internal discussion and the development of new initiatives.

Participants also gained a broader understanding of how business-oriented thinking can support the sustainability and resilience of vocational education institutions. In this context, business transformation does not mean the commercialisation of education. It means using resources more strategically, understanding the needs of stakeholders, building meaningful partnerships, and making sure that vocational education institutions stay relevant and able to create long-term impact.

Towards More Innovative and Resilient Vocational Education Institutions

The workshop in Riga confirmed how relevant the BT4VET results are for education professionals looking for practical ways to develop their institutions. The tools can support transformation both in how an organisation works and in how it thinks, helping vocational education institutions become more innovative, more flexible, more competitive and more closely connected to the environment they operate in.

By using the project's results, the professionals involved can help develop vocational education organisations that respond more effectively to the needs of students and employers, while taking on a more significant role in the development of the local economy and society.

The workshop also created space for professional exchange and reflection, allowing participants to connect the results of a European project with the realities of vocational education in Latvia and with the country's development priorities.
