Nordplus Junior contributes to school development work through partnerships between schools in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Cooperation within Nordplus Junior is a good way to bring new ideas and perspectives into the classroom. By sharing their experience, teachers and staff have the chance to strengthen their professional skills and working practices.
The Nordplus Junior programme makes it possible to apply for cooperation grants. These grants support project partnerships, class and teacher exchanges, and work experience for students.
Students gain the chance to build their knowledge and abilities by working with people from across the Nordic and Baltic countries. Encountering other cultures, languages and ways of thinking makes students more mature and more independent; they broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of different subjects, of the world around them, and of themselves.
NordPlus Junior 2024 "Circular Economy NPJR-2024/10159"
Project title: Circular Economy, NPJR-2024/10159
Project duration: 1 September 2024 to 30 September 2026
The aim of the project is to build students' understanding of the circular economy — a sustainable model of production and consumption based on sharing, reuse, recycling and the efficient management of resources.
During the project, students aged 15 to 19 will take part in a range of activities, including visits to universities, science centres, recycling companies and organic farms, as well as workshops and outdoor seminars. The project will involve research, surveys and analysis of the results, which will be presented on the schools' websites, on posters and in other media. These activities will not only build students' knowledge of sustainable development but also inspire other students to take up waste reduction.
The project will integrate the theme of the circular economy into a range of subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, economics, art and English. This will help students look at the problem from several angles and develop practical skills for acting sustainably.
The project is a significant step towards building environmental awareness among young people in the Baltic countries and strengthening international cooperation.

Project title: Welfare Systems – Threats and Opportunities
Project duration: 1 August 2019 to 31 December 2021
Project aim: To produce a handbook comparing the welfare systems of the participating countries, together with recommendations on the business opportunities that follow from them for local communities and companies; and to enable an exchange of experience between teachers and students.

The project was planned around meetings for students and teachers in the partner countries. Unfortunately, COVID-19 forced a change of plan, and most of the meetings and project work took place remotely. Even so, our students and teachers did manage to meet their counterparts in Gothenburg, Sweden, in October 2021. Over three days, students worked in international teams to prepare a discussion on a theme chosen in advance. Winners were selected for the quality of their presentations, and we are delighted that first and second place went to students from our school — Viktorija Suseja and Henriks Bukšs.
Both students and teachers gained valuable experience and the chance to compare the education system in Latvia with those of other countries.
